Frequently asked questions

My ZENEC device navigates erroneously, some streets aren´t even on the map.

Answer: Please take into account that we use, for entire western europe, maps from the marketleader TELE Atlas. It happens that, at a few rare spots on the map, incorrect map data may cause a navigation error. We recommend to report that directly to TELE Atlas, to enable them to correct their data. Can i use my ex works CD-Changer together with the ZE-NC2040?

Answer: The ZE-NC2040 has no connection facility for a CD-Changer.

Is the Nokia Sound System compatible with the ZE-NC2040?

Answer: No, the ex factory Nokia Sound System is not supported.

What are the requirements for mounting the ZE-NC2040?

Answer: We recommend, for easier installation, that your car features already an ex-works car radio installation mount.

Does the ZE-NC2040 make use of the ex works MFD and the steering wheel remote?

Answer: The ZE-NC2040 does not feature a CAN-Bus integration, meaning it can´t control the MFD.

For the steering wheel remote there are a number of optional CAN-Bus stalk adapters on the market.

Answer: They are produced by various manufacturers, therefore their features may considerably differ. However, as kind of minimum standard, they all seem to support at least source/title selection and volume control.

Is the ex works GPS antenna compatible?

Answer: In most cases, Yes. The GPS antennas are usually eqipped with standard connectors which comply to DIN 72594-1 and USCAR-18 standards and are called SMBA (FAKRA) connectors. They directly plug into the ZE-NC2040. The included E>GO GPS kit antenna, however, is very well adapted to the E>GO
and will, most likely, do an even better job.

Is the ex works hands-free device compatible?

Answer: No. But the ZE-NC2040 sports an integrated high-quality hands-free device from marketleader PARROT.
In case your phone has Bluetooth ability, the E>GO ZE-NC2040 offers a comprehensive hands-free device function.
Once you have paired your mobile with the E>GO, you can handle your calls completely via its touchscreen.
Built-In ex works hands-free devices should be completely shut down, by removing the respective fuse (the one in the fuse box).
If you omit that, you will probably encounter distortions during parallel operation.

Voice transmission quality and sound volume have considerably deterioated, after switching from external to internal microphone.

Answer: Citation from the mounting manual: Out of the box, the internal microphone is activated. If you want to use the external microphone, remove the purple connector (No.7) with the wire bridge, activate the external microphone in the Bluetooth setup menu and plug in the purple connector of
the external microphone. If you want to switch back using the internal microphone later on, the purple plug with the wire bridge must be inserted again – after the connector of the external microphone has been unplugged. Do not forget to reactivate the internal microphone in the Bluetooth setup menu.  You can find a detailed description of the Bluetooth mode and all its functions and settings in the main manual. When installing the microphone, take care not to place it near any airstreaming nozzle.

The voice transmission quality strongly depends on how good Bluetooth support on your mobile is. In a few cases you can improve that
by adapting some Bluetooth parameters. Ask your ZENEC dealer for details.

Do the park sensors still work after mounting the ZE-NC2040?

Answer: Yes, the park sensors and their audible messages still work.

My iPhone gets charged, but i cannot replay any file from it.

Answer: Make sure you have the latest software/firmware, on all participating devices, installed. Obsolete or improper software/firmware may cause severe problems. Use the original ZENEC iPod/iPhone connection cable for full functionality. If the problem persists disconnect your Apple device and reset it before reconnecting. Consult your Apple manual for further details.

After updating my iPhone/iPod it does not properly connect anymore. How do i solve that?

Answer: Disconnect your iPhone before you switch your E>GO on. Switch off your iPhone/iPod completely by holding HOME and POWER Key pressed for at least 5 Seconds, until  the red "Power off" bar appears. Touch it to shut down. Now connect your iPhone/iPod to the E>GO. It should automatically power on.
If it does not, switch it on manually. Keep the power key pressed for at least two seconds. Your iPhone/iPod connection has been newly initialised. That should remedy your connection problems.

If i invoke a call via voice tag, how do i know which number gets dialled?

Answer: The voice tag call always chooses the number which has been filed under "mobile number". However, this could well be a landline number, if you chose to store it there.

The security code of my E>GO does not work as expected.

Answer: Make sure not to mix it up with the parental lock code. Please
consult the manual for further details.

When starting the engine my E>GO switches off and reboots.

Answer: When the voltage supply drops under approx. 9V your E>GO automatically shuts down to avoid operation faults. Its a self protection scheme and not a defect. You may, however, check your electrical installation (battery worn, bad or corroded ground connections, etc.).

What should i consider playing USB media?

Answer: The USB connector is on the back of the device. It can be rerouted to the dash board or glove compartment by using the included Media Link Box. The USB data carrier should be FAT32 formatted. It should not need more
than 400mA, if no external power is present. We recommend 6.35cm (2.5 inch) or preferably 4.6cm (1.8 inch) harddisks. The smaller harddisks need less power and are mechanically more durable.

Which SD-Cards are supported?

Answer: SD/SDHC cards up to 8GB, FAT32 formatted. Anything else may or may not work.

Content on USB / SD data carrier is not recognized even after successful formatting?

It may happen that the file system of the disk got damaged, or that the file allocation table of a data carrier is defect due to erroneous write cycles. There may be different reason for this to happen, such as usage or storage of data carriers and problems occurring at the initial format process.

In such cases, you must format the data carrier once more to get it to work as intended.

Windows Vista and Win7 offer two options, i.e. you can apply a quick format or a full format of carrier. For all cases related to data carriers that seem to cause problems, it is highly suggested to do a full format process. Make sure the check mark for quick format is not set. Also pay attention that the FAT32 file system is selected before you start the format process.

Info: If the disc after formatting is still not recognized by the device, it may be due to an incompatibility of the disk controller chip itself. In such a case, you should use a different data carrier of another brand or manufacturer.

How do i check the software version?

Answer: Tap into the upper left corner to invoke the main menu. Now choose "Setup" (icon with sprocket). Now scroll all the way down and tap "Version".

Why do I need software updates?

Answer: ZENEC frequently releases software updates to add new functionality, correct issues and improve reliability.

Where can i download software updates?

Answer: Released updates may be downloaded from the ZENEC homepage. Go to "Support". Ask your ZENEC dealer, if you have further questions. Do never install any "updates" from other sources, as this might damage your device
irreversibly.

Why can i not use Winzip/Winrar to unpack the update?

Answer: Because data integrity can only be guaranteed when using 7-Zip to unpack. www.7-zip.org

How do i install the updates?

Answer: That depends on device and version. We publish device- and version-specific instructions together with the update. Do not install the update, before you have entirely read the instructions.

The installation instructions say that I have to use a USB flash drive to update. Can I use a CD instead?

Answer: No, you have to follow the given instructions closely. Otherwise your update will probably fail and you surely risk to damage your device.
