FAQ

What are the requirements for mounting the ZE-MC296?

Your car needs to be equipped with minimum 2 DIN Radio slot. Depending on the target vehicle, a CAN/Stalk interface and/or a 2 DIN facial kit is required. Your local ZENEC dealer will provide you with professional advice.

Does the ZE-MC296 make use of the ex works steering wheel remote control?

To connect your ex works steering wheel remote control, an optional CAN/Stalk interface is needed. This can be purchased at any authorised ZENEC dealer. Its functionality may vary depending on the chosen interface. Note that such an interface has to be compatible with the ZENEC IR/IN protocol. You also need to purchase the adaptor cable ZEZ-ZENECLEAD.

Is the ex works GPS antenna compatible?

W recommend to use the included ZENEC GPS antenna – it is optimally adapted to the ZE-MC296 and will, most likely, do better job.

Is the ex works hands-free device compatible?

No. But the ZE-MC296 supports an integrated high quality hands-free device from market leader PARROT. In case your phone has Bluetooth ability, the ZE-MC296 offers a comprehensive hands-free device function. Once you have paired your mobile with the ZE-MC296, you can handle your calls completely via touch screen.

Built-in ex works hands-free devices should be completely shut down, by removing the respective fuse. If you omit that, you will probably encounter distortions during parallel operation.

When starting the engine my ZE-MC296 switches off and reboots.

If the voltage supply drops under approx. 9 V, your ZE-MC296 automatically shuts down to avoid operation faults. This is a self protection mechanism and not a defect. You may, however, check your electrical installation (battery worn, bad or corroded ground connections, etc.).

My vehicle is equipped with an active antenna. Do I have to install an additional antenna power supply?

The ZE-MC296 features an external active phantom power supply if the blue AMP/ANT Remote wire is connected. To connect a passive antenna you don`t need external phantom power.

How does the TFT brightness adjustment work?

The screen brightness is controlled via an illumination connector. It is designed to automatically switch between illuminations of the car (Switch ON/OFF)

What means Slide Touch?

Devices from 2011 and later sport the innovative slide touch feature: Tap and keep screen contact, when sliding your finger to the desired direction. This gesture has the same effect as tapping on the first two markers in the upper screen area.

What should I consider playing USB media?

Make sure your USB data carrier is FAT32 formatted. Zenec recommends the usage of high quality USB sticks with a data volume of 16GB. Higher data volumes are also possible, for this consider the corresponding information sheet. Note that the USB connector allows a maximum current output of 400 mA. Given that external harddisks usually exceed this, we cannot guarantee full compatibility of external harddisks.

What should I consider when using SD cards?

SD as well as SDHC cards are supported. Make sure your SD/SDHC card is FAT32 formatted. Zenec recommends the usage of high quality SD/SDHC cards with a data volume of 8 GB. SDHC cards up to 32 GB data volume are supported.

Content on USB / SD data carrier is not recognized even after successful formatting?

It may happen that the file system of the disk got damaged, or that the file allocation table of a data carrier is defect due to erroneous write cycles. There may be different reason for this to happen, such as usage or storage of data carriers and problems occurring at the initial format process.

In such cases, you must format the data carrier once more to get it to work as intended.

Windows Vista and Win7 offer two options, i.e. you can apply a quick format or a full format of carrier. For all cases related to data carriers that seem to cause problems, it is highly suggested to do a full format process. Make sure the check mark for quick format is not set. Also pay attention that the FAT32 file system is selected before you start the format process.

Info: If the disc after formatting is still not recognized by the device, it may be due to an incompatibility of the disk controller chip itself. In such a case, you should use a different data carrier of another brand or manufacturer.

My iPod/ iPhone gets charged, but is not accessible as a replay source.

Just make sure that your ZENEC device as well as your iPod/iPhone, have the latest software update installed. Non-fitting or non up-to-date software versions can cause a variety of problems and malfunctions. Apart from that, we can only guarantee a trouble free functionality if you use the recommended original ZENEC iPod/iPhone connection cable. If you are sure that the latest software is installed (using the original ZENEC ZE-NC-IPF cable) and the problem still persists, then disconnect, reset your iPod/iPhone and make a new handshake . Consult your iPod/iPhone manual on how to reset your device.

Can I watch a movie during driving?

According to the law in several European countries, driving with monitors in use in the viewing range of the driver is not allowed, because the driver will be distracted from the traffic. An electrical contact needs to be checked whether the handbrake is engaged, before allowing any video to play. This is only valid for the main monitor.

Why do I need software updates?

ZENEC frequently releases software updates to add new functionality, correct issues and improve reliability.

Where can I download software updates?

Released updates can be downloaded from the ZENEC homepage. Go to "Support". Ask your ZENEC dealer, if you have further questions. Do never install any "updates" from other sources, as this might damage your device irreversibly.

What is the TMC Pro function and how can I activate it?

With the traffic messaging channel the navigation unit is able to receive traffic jam information. Thus, navigation can calculate by-passes in real time. This function is activated ex works. TMC Pro gets additional traffic information from private measuring services by which the accuracy increases. To activate TMC Pro you have to take out a subscription. This happens either directly via Naviextras or with a code card ZE-NC-TMCPRO available at authorized ZENEC dealers.

My ZENEC device navigates incorrectly. Some streets aren’t even on the map.

Please take into account that we use, for entire Western Europe, maps from the market leader TELE Atlas. It happens that, at a few rare spots on the map, incorrect map data may cause a navigation error.

We recommend to report that directly to TELE Atlas, to enable them to correct their data.
