After updating to iOS4, my iPhone/iPod doesn't work. What can I do?

Answer:

  1. Turn on your ZENEC device, make sure the iPod/iPhone is not connected or unplug it.
  2. Switch off your iPod/iPhone. Turning off these APPLE devices requires you to press both HOME and POWER buttons for approx. 5 seconds. A red button will appear on the touch screen. Slide the red button to the right side to power off your device.
  3. Re-connect the iPod/iPhone to your ZENEC device.
  4. The iPod/iPhone should automatically turn on. If this is not the case, press the POWER button for 2 seconds to manually power on.
  5. After the iPod/iPhone has been initialized following the instructions above, the switch on sequence of your APPLE device reverts back to its initial status (as before the iOS4 update)

Can I watch a movie during driving?

Answer: According to the law in several European countries, driving with monitors in use in the viewing range of the driver is not allowed, because the driver will be distracted from the traffic. An electrical contact needs to be checked whether the handbrake is engaged, before allowing any video to play. This is only valid for the main monitor.

My original radio has two antenna terminals. Which connector should I use to connect my ZENEC device?

Answer: The antenna connector is implemented as SMBA (FAKRA, DIN 72594-1/USCAR-18) connector. Please consult your ZENEC retailer to get the proper adapter.

I've lost my user manual, where can I get a new one?

Answer: Go to www.zenec.com, choose Download section. You will find PDF manuals for any model.

The device has been delivered with an SD-card for which I do not find any SD-card slot.

Answer: This is actually a microSD adapter with an inserted microSD card (formerly known as TransFlash, before ratification by the SD Card Association). Take the microSD card out of the adapter. Extend the monitor into operating position. You will find the microSD card slot  on the backside of the monitor. Insert the card until you hear an audible click.

I inserted a micro SD-card on the back containing media, but cannot replay it.

Answer: The card reader on the backside of the screen is exclusively meant for navigation software. If you need to play media from memory cards you may connect a single (or multiple which is at least logical single) card reader to the front USB connector. A card reader hub with multiple drives at the same time is incompatible and may even cause a system hang-up.

Content on USB / SD data carrier is not recognized even after successful formatting?

It may happen that the file system of the disk got damaged, or that the file allocation table of a data carrier is defect due to erroneous write cycles. There may be different reason for this to happen, such as usage or storage of data carriers and problems occurring at the initial format process.

In such cases, you must format the data carrier once more to get it to work as intended.

Windows Vista and Win7 offer two options, i.e. you can apply a quick format or a full format of carrier. For all cases related to data carriers that seem to cause problems, it is highly suggested to do a full format process. Make sure the check mark for quick format is not set. Also pay attention that the FAT32 file system is selected before you start the format process.

Info: If the disc after formatting is still not recognized by the device, it may be due to an incompatibility of the disk controller chip itself. In such a case, you should use a different data carrier of another brand or manufacturer.

Navigation function of the ZENEC sat nav is sometimes erroneous, for example at crossings or roundabouts.

Answer: Please consider that ZENEC deploys digital map data of the market leader TELE Atlas. With full EU content and routing and signalization of streets being modified on a daily bases, it can easily happen that certain parts of digitized map data are wrong or not fully up to date. Please contact the support section of TELEATLAS directly, using the provided link – because such issues should ideally be reported by the end user that has stumbled over it (first hand info):

Naviextras did allow me to book TMC Pro. However, i don´t see no hint to TMC Pro, neither in the manual nor on the packaging.

Answer: TMC Pro is featured by ZENEC devices with a (hardware) TMC receiver only. Devices where you can´t find TMC mentioned on either the packaging or the specs will not be able to book TMC Pro. The ZE-NC514, for example features no TMC hardware. Therefore it cannot be activated for TMC Pro.

How up-to-date are the included maps? What map source is used for IGO8?

Answer: Depending production date and storage duration it is well possible that the included maps are not the very latest. Therefore ZENEC always grants a so called Last Map Warranty. That means that you will be able to update your maps for free, within a period of 30 days after first map usage. Get your map updates and your accessories from www.naviextras.com.

Do I need to connect a speedometer pulse to the ZE-NC514?

Answer: No, not at all. Your ZENEC is equipped with a modern SIRF3 chipset. That chip allows a reliable navigation independent from additional signals. The ZE-NC514 even estimates your position in a tunnel, depending on the last GPS positions.

Routing is not reliable. The actual position does not match the one on the navigation display.

Answer: You are most likely having a bad GPS reception. Check whether the GPS antenna is properly connected. If the problem persists you might have to move the antenna to a different location. Keep in mind that the GPS antenna should have a free line of sight to the sky, without any obscuring metal parts. Metallised thermo-glass windscreens do considerably diminish the reception quality, so do not install it here. Same goes for some plastic covers which might have a metallic layer right under the paint.

Im trying to use a backup navigation card. When i run it, either my system hangs up or it restarts over and over again.

Answer: You cannot copy the card license as it is dongled to the physical card. To backup and restore this card you have to use the Naviextras Toolbox. During navigation the original card has to be inserted.

Why does my hands-free device not support all available Bluetooth functions?

Answer: Bluetooth is a proprietary open wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances. Various manufacturers implement different extensions. Some cell phone manufacturer allow using phone numbers from the internal memory exclusively, so that the phone directory has to be copied before using. The internal phone directory can only be accessed by manufacturer dependant special functions. Its obvious that considering the vast amount of new phones on the market, one cannot support each and every phone in detail. For some phones only basic functions are supported.
