FAQ

AW: The Z-N720 is designed for normal vehicles offering a 2-DIN mounting slot. That means for the physical mounting of the Z-N720, a car specific mounting kit that fits into the target vehicle is required. Depending on vehicle brand and model, different 2-DIN mounting kits are available from a range of accessory suppliers. On top of this, there is a selected range of “OmniMask Kits” available, that offer improved vehicle integration aesthetics.

AW: Disc Eject function is provided by the “MEDIA” key on the front panel of the Z-N720. Press and hold “MEDIA button for 3 seconds, to eject a CD or DVD.

AW: The Z-N720 contains a phantom power supply, to feed active FM antennas.

Antenna phantom power factory default is OFF. The use of an external phantom power supply is not recommended by ZENEC, since the self protection logic of the tuner pc board will enter protection mode when both external and internal phantom power supplies are set to ON (accidentally).

For vehicles that equipped with a passive FM antenna, the power supply must be set to OFF – for active antennas, the correct setting is ON. So this particular setting depends on the vehicle itself and the antenna present in the car. To avoid mistakes and/or poor FM performance, ZENEC recommends on site check with the dealer where the vehicle or device was purchased. The absolute FM performance is – to a certain extent – dependent on the FM antenna type, its vehicle mounting location and the correct settings in the device menu. If you have doubts or questions on any of these points, please consult your dealer or let your dealer verify related settings for correctness.

AW: Aside of the points mentioned above under “antenna supply” you should check if your device has been properly set up for best FM reception. It is recommended to check the following settings in the setup menu, since this will affect general reception quality and in some cases, also the quantity of FM stations found with auto-scan:

Adjustment options in the “TUNER” source mode:

AF ON: With AF turned ON, the device will automatically search and select the best available FM station (for stations that provide Alternative Frequency options).

LOC or DX: To choose local radio stations, or stations that are further away. With LOC chosen, only nearby stations with good / strong FM signal level are found with the auto scan.

If the radio reception does not improve with these measures and adjustment options, you should visit your dealer and ask for assistance.

AW: If your vehicle is fitted with a steering wheel remote control option, chances are quite high that a car specific IR-code based CAN or Stalk-interface option is available from an accessory supplier. Such “universal” CAN/Stalk interfaces will usually support Vol up/down, track changes and (BT hands-free) telephony buttons of the steering wheel. Please consult the dealer where the ZENEC device was purchased to discuss potential CAN/Stalk interface options and covered functionality.

The bespoke OmniMask Kits do contain all accessories required for mounting and connection of the Z-N720, which includes the car specific CAN/Stalk-interface as well.

AW: The device features a light sensor. Three different options to control the screen brightness are available. In the setup menu under Video / Picture on the second page, you will find the following settings: Brightness: Navigation / Sensor / Car

Choose “Navi” to allow the GPS system to set brightness automatically over day / night signal of the GPS system.

Select “sensor” to allow the screen brightness adjustment via light sensor embedded in the device. Note that the sensor is made insensitive for fast changes of brightness on purpose, where the delay will reduce unwanted screen brightness changes (for example during device operation or driving through avenues with trees etc.).

Select “Car” to adjust the brightness according to signals present in the CAN net of the vehicle itself.

Note that if GPS signal controlled day / night switching is enabled, the sync process may take roughly 20 seconds, right after device start up.

How does the day / night switch work for the HMI: The factory default is set to day / night switching controlled by the GPS navigation system. However, there is the possibility to adjust this function manually. If the GPS signal-controlled auto switching is not desired, it can be deactivated in the Navigation Pane of settings (NAV> More> Settings> Map Setup> Color> Day / Night / Auto).

AW: Yes, there is a ZENEC support team. This team mainly takes care to instruct, and consult the ZENEC store and caravan dealers. Much more suitable for end consumers is the ZENEC Youtube channel, that contains videos how to update an SD-card based ZENEC navigation system: ZENEC video-channel

AW: This is correct. Due to (retail) price constraints, the Z-N720 features a selection of normal selection of voices for route guidance announcements, without the option to select a TTS voice variant.

AW: ZENEC does frequently release software updates to add new functionality, correct software issues and improve reliability in general. Some updates also contain up to date BT firmware, to offer improved compatibility with brand new mobile phones.

ON the ZENEC homepage, go to the support section and select the button “Software Updates”.

Do not download software packages from third parties or other unknown sources in the Internet, because external software can damage your unit irreversibly. A guarantee or warranty repair carried out free of charge for devices that show software induced system failure by unauthorized software, is excluded and will be strictly declined.

Answer: Please take into account that we use, for entire Western Europe and standard, non motorhome devices, maps from the market leader TELE Atlas. It happens that, at a few rare spots on the map, incorrect map data may cause a navigation error. We recommend that such findings should be reported to Tele Atlas directly, to enable them to correct their own data. Direct map errors report link: mapinsight.teleatlas.com/mapfeedback/index.php

AW: To protect the device electronics from under voltage conditions and resulting malfunction of function modules inside the device the ZENEC mainboard and the MCU constantly measure the power supply voltage via sensor, to trigger a shut-down (and reboot) if the supply voltage drops below 9 V. The automatic sense process avoids faults on the device operation and incomplete loading of software data. This is a device self protection mechanism and not a defect. If the device does reboot after engine start from time to time, it is recommended to see your car dealer for an inspection of the condition of the battery, and or if wires and contacts are corroded to cause supply voltage drop below 9V.

AW: The microSD card reader on the front side of the Z-N720 device is reserved for the navigation SD-card operation and data retrieval exclusively. Avoid removing the microSD card from the device when the sat nav application is running. Playback of video or audio files stored on normal microSD cards, using the microSD-card slot and the panel front side is not possible.

AW: It may happen, depending on the assignment of USB memory devices connected to the USB hub, that the media drive indicator does change the address of drives assigned before, due to dynamic assignment of drive letters by the system.

If you have problems with file playback from USB sticks, make sure that the USB media is formatted correctly before use. Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 give you the option of a quick format or full format process. For any problems encountered with USB sticks, applying a full format is recommended. Make sure that the checkbox at formatting options -> Quick format is not enabled. Also make sure, the FAT32 file system has been selected. Do not use NTFS, HPFS and EXTFAT file system / format settings.

It may happen that the file system of the disk got damaged, or that the file allocation table of a data carrier is defect due to erroneous write cycles. There may be different reason for this to happen, such as usage or storage of data carriers and problems occurring at the initial format process.

In such cases, you must format the data carrier again to make it work correctly.

Info: If the data carrier after formatting is still not recognized by the device, it may be due to an incompatibility of the disk controller chip itself. In such a case, you should use a different data carrier of another brand or manufacturer.

Category: Z-N720 faq en

AW: Make sure your USB data carrier has been formatted in FAT32 – prior to use. Zenec recommends the use of high quality USB sticks only. Study the corresponding key features of the ZENEC device, for supported USB flash memory data carriers. Note that the USB connector of the device is current limited to 400 mA maximum consumption. In most cases, external hard disk models will easily exceed 400mA and thus, Zenec does not endorse the use of such products.
