||Bluetooth Hands-Free Compatibility Disclaimer
The Z-E2060 uses a monolithic single chip Bluetooth solution which was developed for deployment in the mobile (automotive) realm. The module supports Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR (“Enhanced Data Rate”) profile, which causes the ZENEC Z-E2060 to be compliant with most given Bluetooth profile standards. The A2DP and Bluetooth hands-free module of this ZENEC device will work well with smartphones which support the v2.1 + EDR BT profile and up. In practice, exceptions to the rules are known and caused by various factors such as localization or customized provider specific smartphone firmware etc.
In order to be absolutely certain that a given smartphone works well with the relevant BT functions of the target device, a direct check of the device combination BEFORE buying the unit is recommendable and helpful.Known limitations:
Some mobile phones will ask permission before accessing a contact or the contact list. Where this is the case, you will have to give permission on the phone itself.
If you encounter connectivity issues, always check to see if there is a new firmware version for your phone and install it if necessary. After a firmware update, proceed to delete the previous pairing on the ZENEC device (if applicable). Shut down and restart your smartphone, then pair again.
AW: Your vehicle should be listed in the official ZENEC compatibility list. The dimensions and physical shape of the Z-E2060 must be identical with the OE radio or navigation device. Further info on vehicle compliance can be obtained using the ZENEC online configurator tool.
AW: The Z-E2060 offers no direct connection to factory installed rear-view camera systems. However, you can alternatively contact the ZENEC specialty retailer to discuss interface options. There are third party vendors who carry suitable OE camera interface adapters for your vehicle.
The rear view camera picture does not show the advertised dynamic grid-line overlay. Did I forget to connect something?
AW: No, not necessarily. The dynamic grid lines are based on gear rack sensor data that must be present in the CAN network of the vehicle. Some vehicle models do not have gear rack sensors mounted ex-works and thus, the CAN system does not carry these signals.
AW: The Z-E2060 has two selectable control options for the automatic TFT display brightness in the setup menu. Go to: Setup > TFT Settings > TFT Control > “Car” or “Navi”*.
Initially and ex-works, this selection is set to “Car” which means that the device dims the screen when low or high beam is activated. For the “Car” based TFT screen brightness control, the “Illu signal”, present in the CAN bus system is used. Daytime Running Lights with TFT Control set to “Car” mode will cause dimmed screen with headlights on.
People who are traveling with daytime running lights, the TFT Control setting should be set to “Navi” so that the day/night time zone data is used to control TFT screen brightness. Note: The “Navi” setting will cause the device to start up in night mode until an actual GPS time signal for device master clock is obtained via GPS signal. This may take up to 30 seconds.
* “Navi” setting requires the microSD card (Z-MAP50) for the function to work.
The 6.5” display panel features a high gloss touch screen glass surface without anti-reflective coating, huh?
AW: During the development of the Z-E2060, direct comparisons between matte (etched) glass and the high-gloss surface version have been conducted. The side-by-side comparison clearly puts the glossy version in front of the matte panel. The benefit of the glossy version is to offers higher contrast levels from which readability of text Fonts benefits under direct sunlight.
AW: The Z-E2060 does support Audio source related info on the driver info display, e.g. RDS radio station names and track info are supported. Navigation turn key arrows and distance to turn are not supported.
AW1: A/C status display requires function specific data packages to be present in the vehicle CAN bus. The manual A/C system does not offer such data.
AW2: It may be that A/C status info is disabled in the Setup menu. Therefore please check if this feature is active: (System Settings > CAR > POP UP > ON). Note that not all vehicles provide this information – specifications vary with vehicle model, model year and factory installed optional equipment.
AW: Yes. The Z-E2060 does support all known active sound systems of the target vehicles. Three different OE sound systems are known to exist, the 8 channel standard system, the 10-channel sound system and 10-channel sound system with DSP function.
AW: The Z-E2060 offers CAN integration. This enables data exchange between the Z-E2060 and the OE installed multifunction steering wheel. For a detailed explanation of assigned hard keys / buttons, please refer to the main device operation manual of the Z-E2060.
AW: The dynamic grid lines depend on the factory installed steering rack sensor and the relevant data. The sensor is present in all T5 vehicles. Yet steering rack data can be limited to the drive bus (DM), while function requires data present on the comfort bus (CM). The limitation affects pre-facelift (2004 – 2009) and T5 commercial vehicle models in which the dynamic grid lines do not appear in reversing camera mode.
AW: The main wiring harness of the Z-E2060 features a connector allowing to connect and use of the factory AUX socket in the glove compartment as before.
AW: No. The Z-E2060 comes with an adaptor interface, which fits to the double FM antenna plug from the vehicle. If this solution is not sufficient, e.g. the FM radio reception is deemed to be poor, the ZE-NC-ANT3 phantom power adaptor which is separately available, may help to improve FM signal level.
AW: The Z-E2060 does not feature an IR remote in the set content. But the device itself features an IR-eye – for which a IR remote control is separately available, if needed.
AW: Mainly to give the customer a choice, depending on the profile of use. Depending on personal requirements and frequency of use, it may be sufficient to use the smartphone’s own map service app via Easy Connect function (Google Maps is suitable). The smartphone Apps may offer a route guidance good enough to cover sporadic use. For customers seeking a more professional navigation system offering a wealth of comfort functions, the Z-EMAP50 navigation package is the inevitable choice, since it was specifically developed for the Z-E2060 device.
AW: During the navigation announcement, the volume of the announcement level can be increased or decreased via the horizontal volume scale of the Z-E2060. Simply turn the volume knob of the unit during the navigation announcement to adjust it to the desired volume. The last VOL adjustment value is retained.
AW: ZENEC’s SmartLink Direct is an application software that allows Android based smartphones to be connected to the ZENEC device, for launch and control of the smartphone Apps via ZENEC touch screen. In order for Smartlink Direct to run in combination with your smartphone, it must be paired prior use. Please refer to the respective chapter in the main operating manual of the device or else, the special Smartlink Direct explanation page for the ZENEC models supporting this particular feature.
AW: In order to keep the map content of your Navigation micro-SD card up to date, it is possible to update map database with a PC tool called “Toolbox” and Naviextras online update portal. On Naviextras you have access to free and pay type updates as well as other add-on’s. The separately available navigation package for the Z-E2060 (Z-EMAP50) comes with a 1-year map update subscription, allowing you to update your map content for the period of one year after first (GPS) activation at no cost. Within the given 12 month time frame, TomTom (map provider) would usually release two to three content updates (without guarantee).
Navigation software updates, Add-On content und map updates are available here: https://zenec.naviextras.com
AW: Please note that ZENEC, for west and east Europe coverage, deploys digital map data by TomTom (formerly known as “Tele Atlas”). Even if you have recently updated the navigation map content it is still possible that digital map data contained is imprecise or even faulty in areas such as intersections, new roads and other places recently added. In such cases device may provide you with incorrect routing instructions. Please use the respective TomTom tool to report errors to TomTom map share service directly: http://www.tomtom.com/mapshare/tools/
AW: No. The microSDHC card reader in the bottom center of the Z-E2060 front panel is reserved exclusively for the operation of the GPS navigation system. Avoid removal of the microSDHC card while device is running, especially during an active GPS route guidance.
The USB memory stick is not recognized by the device, even after successful reformatting. What’s wrong?
AW: It may happen that the file system of the disk gets fragmented, or that the file allocation table of a data carrier is defect or lost, due to erroneous write cycles.
In such cases, you must format the data carrier again to make it work correctly.
Info: If the data carrier after formatting is still not recognized by the device, it may be due to an incompatibility of the disk controller chip itself. In such a case, you should use a different USB data carrier of another brand or manufacturer.
AW: Make sure your USB data carrier has been FAT32 formatted prior to use. Zenec recommends use of high quality USB memory devices only. Note that the USB connector of the device is current limited to 1000 mA maximum consumption. Since many external hard disk models will easily consume higher drive currents, Zenec does not endorse the use of such products.
AW: Setup> Audio> Slider = Expert Mode> to find „Equalizer“.
Why are the settings of time alignment function during FM radio playback only applied after changing the source?
AW: At file based sources, like USB, iPod, etc., which are directly handled by CPU, the adjusted values of time alignment can be applied instantly. At live sources like FM, DAB or AV-In, the CPU is not able to access random positions of the soundtrack, so here it is needed either to change the source or to restart the device. Reloading the live source avoids distortions during buffering.
Therefore it is recommended to adjust the time alignment during USB source music playback.
AW: Yes. The Z-E2060 is supplied with an antenna adapter allowing to you to connect the factory installed DAB aerial to the device.
AW: Device allows to pair several smart phone showing up in the device list, while only one phone can be active.
AW: First, the password function should be set to “ON”. Before you can enter your own password, you have to enter the default password – 12345 – once.
AW: The Z-E2060 features an integrated DAB+ tuner. For the reception of digital radio stations, an antenna supporting the DAB standard is required.
If your car does not offer a suitable DAB antenna, it must be retrofitted with an aftermarket antenna allowing you to enjoy digital radio programs.
AW: No, but there is an accessory item called GBA-HDMIBOX (1 x HDMI, 2 x USB) offered separately for the Z-E2060, which supports HDMI sources.
AW: Zenec units include a low-voltage protection to avoid low voltage operation for ICs on the main board, which could malfunction without steady 12V supply voltage. Please consult your car service point to review your car´s battery and wiring.
The cause of device reboots is therefore to be found in the on-board power supply network, which falls briefly below about 10.5V during engine start-up.
Please consult your car dealer and let check the battery and the cable connections.
I would like to connect an external Bluetooth microphone at the Z-E2060, but the set does not contain such an microphone?
AW: Connection is possible. The device features an internal microphone located at the front panel. An external microphone can also be connected to the Z-E2060 device. There is a mic input socket on the device backside, for which a spare part called N-ZENC-MIC can be purchased from authorized retailers.
AW: No, this is not possible. All Zenec devices already include a hands free module. To avoid interference issues it is strongly suggested to deactivate your car’s built-in OE hands free system. You can do this by removing the correct fuse for that electrical section (please study your car’s manual).
AW: The scope of delivery includes a double FM antenna adapter for antenna leads of Volkswagen vehicles. You just need to plug it in between the antenna and the device and then connect the blue supply cable to the P.ANT connector of your main connection cable and connect the ground wire (GND) to vehicle ground.
I don’t use the optional navigation card for my Z-E2060. Do I still need to connect the GPS antenna?
AW: Yes, we suggest to connect the antenna because the device does sync date and time via the GPS signal.
AW: You will find this information also in your manual – please enter four times zero (0000). The Z-E2060 allows to change this PIN number in its Bluetooth settings.
AW: Your smartphone contacts will only be downloaded again when you confirm this action. Any later changes made to your contacts must be refreshed manually (see main device manual).
AW: It is not possible to edit favourites. But you can delete and re-assign a new contact after you updated the phonebook on your Zenec device by re-downloading it.
AW: There are multiple issues that may lead to such problems. Please check the place and position of your GPS-receiver which is usually behind the windscreen on the dashboard. The fixation of the GPS-receiver may have suffered due to vibrations and bumpy roads. Another reason can be your park position or parking time (extended period, metal constructions or concrete walls may cause interferences such as reflections and shield your receiver from GPS satellites).
Please note that the device should establish a stable GPS signal before you start to drive around. Otherwise the system may be busy to establish the sat-fix process, which may impact the route guidance accuracy until completed.
AW: Most GPS antenna feature FAKRA connectors which can’t be directly connected to this Zenec device. It is suggested to use the provided and included Zenec GPS antenna to avoid any interoperability issues.
We provide in periods system enhancements and increased compatibility for Bluetooth, to keep your device up to date with the latest software.
AW: Updates can be downloaded in the download area of the ZENEC homepage under> Support> Software Updates > Car Brand > Your Device model.
AW: Most problems originate from not officially licensed by Apple cables. Therefore make sure, that either an original cable, or else at least a licensed Apple Lightning cable is used.
Otherwise, perhaps this little trick can help:
Power off the iPhone – Power off the ZENEC device.
Switch on the ZENEC device – switch on the iPhone and pair it. Unplug the Lightning cable, reconnect it – then everything should function normally.
Make sure, the iOS version the iOS version of your Apple iPhone is always up to date.
