Audio/Video playback compatibility list | Notes on the Bluetooth hands-free function The Z-E1010 uses a modern Bluetooth solution from CSR developed for usage in the automotive environment. The module supports the Bluetooth 4.1 profile, which ensures a high compatibility of the ZENEC Z-E1010 and all device relevant Bluetooth functions in combination with most actual smartphone brands and models. Exceptions for Bluetooth function or profile components that do not seem to run correctly usually originate from provider-specific smartphone firmware (third-party provider). In order to be sure that a given smartphone is compatible with the relevant BT functions of the target device, it is advisable to test a given device combination in the shop of an authorized retailer before purchase. Additional information: Some smartphones require a confirmation to allow access to the phone book contact list. The phonebook access confirmation needs to be performed by the user, if necessary. If you encounter connection problems, always check to see if a newer firmware version is available for your phone and install it. After a smartphone update you should delete the previous device pairing on the device, restart the smartphone and pair it anew. |

FAQ
AW: The main wiring harness of the Z-E1010 CORE device features a connector allowing to connect and use of the factory AUX socket as before, see connector type “C” on p.76.
AW: It is not possible to edit favourites. But you can delete and re-assign a new contact after you updated the phonebook on your Zenec device by re-downloading it.
AW: No, this is not possible. All Zenec devices already include a hands free module. To avoid interference issues it is strongly suggested to deactivate your car’s built-in OE hands free system. You can do this by removing the correct fuse for that electrical section (please study your car’s manual).
AW: GPS antennas of vehicles with ex-works sat nav-system usually come equipped with a (blue) FAKRA connector, which could be connected to the Zenec device directly (Z-E1010 features a blue Fakra input socket for the GPS antenna). ZENEC does recommend to use the GPS antenna supplied with the set, because device and GPS antenna are optimized to provide best signal reception in combination.
Note: Some of the newer vehicles have a metal-coated windshield, aiming at keeping the temperatures lower under direct sunlight, filtering out the infrared part of the light. Metal-coated windscreens can also interfere ith GPS signals and cause function impairment of the navigation system.
AW: For vehicles with an RCA output for the rear-view camera signal, the direct connection at device is available. For example for VW and SKODA vehicles, a RVC signal output coming off the Quadlock main harness provides a direct connection to the RCA rear camera input of the CORE device. See pages 74 to 76 in the main device manual. For other vehicles, 3rd party aftermarket interfaces are available, which can be quite expensive depending on the vehicle make and model as well as the interface electronics.
AW: Your smartphone contacts will only be downloaded again when you confirm this action. Any later changes made to your contacts must be refreshed manually (see main device manual).
AW: It depends on the target vehicle…. The CORE mounting kits include an FM cable adapter for the target vehicle which comes as “single version” for the vehicles in the compatibility list. This adaptor connects the main antenna of the vehicle to the FM input of the CORE device, also for vehicles with diversity or dual antenna system. If this solution does not provide adequate reception performance, 3rd party phantom power adapters can be deployed, such as the PMA article 204.087-0. Such twin antenna interfaces can improve the FM reception performance in critical regions by capturing the FM signal via both antennas.
AW: No, there is no HDMI cable in the set content. HDMI is not considered to be a standard connection option every end consumer wants to use. HDMI cables are available as separate accessory in the aftermarket, in various lengths and differing quality levels.
AW: The Z-E1010 CORE SERIES device offers device internal CAN system integration. This enables data exchange between the Z-E1010 CORE SERIES and the OE installed multifunction steering wheel. This means that all vehicles listed as compatible are fully supported, e.g. the steering wheel control buttons do work “out-of-the-box” without any further measures.
Note: Depending on the vehicle model, a software update must be applied to the Z-E1010, for the SWC functions to be correctly assigned.
AW: During the navigation announcement, the volume level of the voice announcement can be adjusted directly via the VOL “+” and “-“ sensor keys on the device front panel. Pressing the VOL “+” or “-“ sensor key invokes a pop-up screen with a volume bar. On the right side of this pop-up screen you can find an arrow button pointing down. Tipping on the arrow key opens a volume setup screen for Start- / TA- / BT- / Navi volume, for direct volume adjustment. Newly applied VOL adjustment values are saved / retained.
AW: In order to keep the map content of your Navigation micro-SD card up to date, it is possible to update map database with a PC tool called “Synctool” and a USB memory device of at least 16GB via the Naviextras online update portal. On Naviextras you have access to free and pay type updates as well as other add-on’s. The separately available navigation package for the Z-E1010 CORE SERIES (Z-EMAP-CORE) comes with a 1-year map update subscription, allowing you to update your map content for the period of one year after first (GPS) activation at no cost. Within the given 12 month time frame, TomTom (map provider) would usually release two content updates (without guarantee and no controlling option, 3rd party offering).
Navigation software updates, Add-On content und map updates are available here: https://zenec.naviextras.com
Disclaimer: The card update subscription duration can only be guaranteed in its entirety in conjunction with a new device which is put into service together with a new navigation card. For used devices with navigation packages purchased later, limitations apply because the date of the first use of device is crucial. Naviextras places a time stamp point on the device once first sat connection is established.
AW: The Z-E1010 CORE device does support Audio source related info, as well as telephone call info on the driver info display, e.g. dialled and received calls, as well as RDS radio station names and track meta data. A detailed list of supported CAN related functions is available as PDF named “CAN Bus function integration overview”.
AW: Device allows to pair seven smart phones in total, showing up in the device list. Only one phone can be actively in use.
AW: The map data on the navigation microSD card covers 47 countries, as follows:
Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia, Germany, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Vatican City
Note: Cyprus coverage is not provided due to the ongoing strategic and military souveignity conflicts with Turkey.
AW: It is possible to use an external microphone for improved hands-free audio performance. The external microphone can be connected on the backside of the Z-E1010 CORE device, since it features a 3.5 mm jack input for the mic. The separately available microphone item is called N-ZENC-MIC, which can be purchased from authorized ZENEC retailers.
AW: Yes. The frame kits for the Z-E1010 CORE device is supplied with an antenna adapter allowing to connect the factory installed DAB aerial to the device.
AW: First, the password function should be set to “ON”. Before you can enter your own password, you have to enter the default password – 012345 – once.
AW: Yes. The Z-E1010 supports all known OE sound systems of VAG car models. In general there can be three different OE sound systems, the 8 channel standard system, the 10-channel sound system and 10-channel sound system with DSP function. Please also refer to the PDF named “ZENEC E>GO CORE CAN integration overview”. Newer VAG vehicles may contain a MOST audio (optical fiber) system. Where this is the case, a MOST interface may be required for audio integration.
AW: No. The Z-E1010 has an active FM antenna phantom power. However, this power is factory set to “OFF”, because the supply voltage is different for VW and Skoda vehicles, which is why you will find three setting options in the device setup: “OFF” / “12 V” / “8.5 V”. It is important that FM antenna systems of newer MIB2 based VAG vehicles, e.g. Golf VII, Passat B8, Polo 6C need the 8.5 V supply voltage. Older VAG models such as In contrast, Skoda Octavia II, VW Polo 6R and many Asia vehicles need 12 V for full antenna performance.
Note: In case of poor FM reception, you should check whether the FM power supply in the device setup is set to “8.5 V or” 12 V “.
AW: The device is featuring two USB ports, which for the assigned functions do not reach fully redundancy. See the following list, what functions are covered by USB1 and USB2 ports:
USB1: Software updates / smartphone quick charge function / USB media playback / EasyConnect / USB + Wifi dongles
USB2: USB media playback / smartphone quick charge function
AW: A/C status display requires function specific data packages to be present in the vehicle CAN bus. Note that manual A/C systems do not offer such data.
Note: For compatible vehicles of the brands VW and Skoda climate status information can be accessed via SETUP.
AW: Please note that ZENEC, for west and east Europe coverage, deploys digital map data by TomTom (formerly known as “Tele Atlas”). Even if you have recently updated the navigation map content it is still possible that digital map data contained is imprecise or even faulty in areas such as intersections, new roads and other places recently added. In such cases device may provide you with incorrect routing instructions. Please use the respective TomTom tool to report errors to TomTom map share service directly: http://www.tomtom.com/mapshare/tools/
AW: There are several reasons which could be root cause for such problems. Please check the place and position of your GPS-receiver which is usually behind the windscreen on the dashboard. The fixation of the GPS-receiver may have suffered due to vibrations and bumpy roads. Another reason can be your park position or parking time (extended period, metal constructions or concrete walls may cause interferences such as reflections and shield your receiver from GPS satellites).
Please note that the device should establish a stable GPS signal before you start to drive around. Otherwise the system may be busy to establish the sat-fix process, which may impact the route guidance accuracy until completed.
AW: You will find this information also in your manual – please enter four times zero (0000). The Z-E1010 CORE SERIES allows to change this PIN number in its Bluetooth settings.
AW: The Z-E1010 CORE SERIES has two selectable control options for the automatic TFT display brightness in the setup menu. Go to: Setup > TFT Settings > TFT Control > “Car” or “Navi”*.
Initially and ex-works, this selection is set to “Car” which means that the device dims the screen when low or high beam is activated. For the “Car” based TFT screen brightness control, the “Illu signal”, present in the CAN bus system is used. While real daytime running lights will not cause the display to dim, persons that drive around with dimmed headlights, the TFT control set to “Car” mode will cause dimmed display screen. Users that drive with dimmed headlights during the day should adjust the TFT Control setting to “Navi” so that the day/night time zone data is used to control TFT screen brightness. Note: The “Navi” setting will cause the device to start up in night mode until an actual GPS time signal for the device master clock is retrieved, which can take up to 30 seconds.
* A navigation microSD card (Z-MAP-CORE) is required for this function to work.
AW: This is caused by the TTS engine with Phonemes support, which is no longer provided by Nuance for Android OS based navigation packages but instead, comes from Pico. Anyone who is bothered by the pronunciation of a selected TTS voice should change to another non-TTS voice.
AW: The displayed audio data comes from the device itself. The RealDash app can show device related audio info, such as iD3-Tag content when music is playing on the device – but also show vehicle / engine related info. For the latter, RealDash retrieves data via an OBD II dongle connected to the OBD port of the car. Compliant OBD dongles can be purchased from various vendors, like for example the item Z-EACC-OBD2 by ZENEC.
AW: Yes. The Z-E1010 main device set content does not contain a DAB antenna. A high performance antenna model developed for deployment in passenger cars is the active DAB antenna Z-EACC-DAB1 from ZENEC.
Note: Some of the newer vehicles have a metal-coated windshield, aiming at keeping the temperatures lower under direct sunlight, by filtering out the infrared part of the light. Yet metal-coated windscreens do strongly filter the DAB frequency range as well, thus eliminating the use of DAB antennas mounted on the inside of the windscreen. Roof antennas or, with certain restrictions, FM / DAB splitter can help in such cases.
AW: It may have happened that the file system of the disk was damaged, or that the file allocation table of a data carrier is defect due to erroneous write cycles.
In such cases, you must format the data carrier again to make it work correctly.
Info: If the data carrier after formatting is still not recognized by the device, it may be due to an incompatibility of the disk controller chip itself. In such a case, you should use a different USB data carrier of another brand or manufacturer.
AW: ZENEC E>GO CORE is an innovative system solution for easily retrofitting a vehicle specific infotainer with a large display. For a particular model of vehicle there is a specific installation kit that includes a matching device and all necessary cables, like main harness and the vehicle model specific FM antenna interface cable to facilitate an easy installation. Please refer to the vehicle compatibility list for the available installation kits.
AW: Make sure your USB data carrier has been FAT32 formatted prior to use. Zenec recommends use of high quality USB memory devices only. Note that the USB connector of the device is current limited to 1000 mA maximum consumption. Since many external hard disk models will easily consume higher drive currents, Zenec does not endorse the use of such products.
AW: ZENEC’s SmartLink Direct is an application software that allows Android based smartphones to be connected to the ZENEC device, for launch and control of the smartphone Apps via ZENEC touch screen. In order for Smartlink Direct to run in combination with your smartphone, it must be paired prior use. Please refer to the respective chapter in the main operating manual of the device or else, the special Smartlink Direct explanation page for the ZENEC models supporting this particular feature.
AW: The factory default setting of the Z-E1010 is using the time info of the DAB+ signal from system clock synchronization. If the country of use does not offer DAB+ radio broadcasting, the time base for the clock can be changed from DAB to “RTC” manually in the system settings. See p.68 in the main device manual.
AW: Most problems originate from not officially licensed by Apple cables. Therefore make sure, that either an original cable, or else at least a licensed Apple Lightning cable is used.
Otherwise, perhaps this little trick can help:
Power off the iPhone – Power off the ZENEC device.
Switch on the ZENEC device – switch on the iPhone and pair it. Unplug the Lightning cable, reconnect it – then everything should function normally.
Make sure, the iOS version the iOS version of your Apple iPhone is always up to date.
AW: Zenec units include a low-voltage protection to avoid under supply for certain integrated circuits (ICs) that may not work properly without correct and steady supply voltage. Please consult your car service point or car garage to review your car´s battery and wiring.
The cause of device reboots is usually found in the on-board power supply, which dives below 10.5 volts during engine start-up. Please consult your car dealer and let check the battery and the cable connections.
AW: The Z-E1010 CORE SERIES features an integrated DAB+ tuner. For the reception of digital radio stations, an antenna supporting the DAB standard is required.
After starting up the Z-E1010 device, the DAB tuner will trigger an automatic full radio station scan when DAB source is entered for the first time. If there are no or only a few ensembles in the station list after the scan has completed, this indicates that the DAB antenna phantom power setting is set to “OFF” in the setup menu. Please select the proper phantom power supply voltage for your vehicle (see S.21 in the device manual). Then start a manual DAB radio station scan.
If your car does not offer a suitable DAB antenna, it must be retrofitted with an aftermarket antenna allowing you to enjoy digital radio programs.
AW: Updates can be downloaded in the download area of the ZENEC homepage under> Support> Software Updates > Car Brand > Device Model.
We provide in periods system enhancements and increased compatibility for Bluetooth, to keep your device up to date with the latest software.
