AW: No. When using the device in a car, we recommend purchasing a suitable active windshield antenna. For example: https://www.zenec.com/products/zubehoer/antennas/z-eacc-dab1/?lang=en
AW: Some vehicles are equipped with Quadlock II or else, Quadlock III connectors ex works.
The Z-E2065 is supplied with wiring harness for the vehicle’s Quadlock II connector. Newer vehicles can also be equipped with Quadlock III main connector. Such vehicles require use of separately available Quadlock III main cable for the device connection, which is called N-ZE2050-QL3. Vehicle models that require the Quadlock III harness are listed in the extension of the compatibility list for the Z-E2065 device. The article N-ZE2050-QL3 is available from authorized dealers.
AW: The Z-E2065 features a double Fakra antenna socket for the connection of the OE diversity antenna systems. The device-side double Fakra socket supplies the OE antenna systems with 12V phantom power.
There is no need for any further adaptors.
AW: The majority of target vehicles listed as compatible with the Z-E2065, have been fitted with a diversity antenna system. There are vehicles that are only equipped with a single FM antenna ex works for cost reasons. A phase diversity dual antenna input on the device must be correctly terminated, as it picks up electrical interference signals and generates disturbances with only one antenna connected at the input.
To use both inputs, an adapter cable should be used if a single antenna is present. Suitable adapters are available from specialist dealers. E.g. the article “ACV 1524-23 double Fakra antenna adapter for Audi/Seat/Skoda/VW”.
Alternatively, you can also search online for a 1x Fakra (m) to double Fakra (w) adapter using the search term “Antenna adapter RNS, new radio – old car”.
AW: Yes. The Z-E2065 comes with an SMB to FAKRA antenna adapter for direct connection of factory-fitted DAB antennas to the ZENEC Z-E2065 device.
AW: Yes, this is recommended. The accessory supplied with the Z-E2065 contains an external Bluetooth hands-free microphone for free installation in the vehicle. Please make sure the Bluetooth microphone is installed in a suitable location, away from A/C ducts and other areas of strong air turbulence.
AW: Your vehicle must be listed in the compatibility list of the Z-E2065 device model. The Z-E2065 does replace the following VW OE device models: RNS 210/310/315/510 and RCD 310/315/330/350/510. The physical shape of the factory-installed radio must be identical with the Z-E2065 device. Please refer to the compatibility list on the Z-E2065 product page at www.ZENEC.com.
AW: The Z-E2065 features independent phantom power supplies for FM diversity and DAB antenna systems. Both antenna power supplies are set to ON at the factory, while the FM supply is always active. It cannot be switched off. However, the DAB supply can be set to OFF in the device setup, if needed.
AW: No, this is not possible. The ZENEC device has an integrated BT hands-free system. If there is a factory-fitted hands-free kit in the vehicle, it must be disconnected electrically to avoid interference effects, which is done by interrupting the power supply line. E.g. by removal of the corresponding fuse in the vehicle fuse box.
AW: The Z-E2065 has an A/V-In plug connection allowing you to connect the factory AUX socket at the Quadlock connector via RCA to the device, to continue using the AUX socket.
AW: The screen brightness of the Z-E2065 is automatically switched to day and night mode via the vehicle CAN. There is a setting option for the respective day and night screen brightness in the device settings. On the device, go to: Settings > TFT configuration > TFT settings > “Day” or “Night”.
Please refer to pages 51 – 52 in the device main manual.
AW: The Z-E2065 supports audio information on the multifunction driver info display, i.e. RDS radio station identification and track information from USB audio sources, which are shown on the MFD(+) display.
AW: To display climate status data on the Z-E2065, it requires data packets to be present in the vehicle’s CAN system. Vehicles with manual climate control do not send climate status data in the CAN at all.
Please also note that not all vehicles provide air conditioning CAN data, since this still depends on the model, model year and the equipment status. The climate status display function can be deactivated in the setup menu. To check whether the function is set to ON, go to > System settings > CAR > Pop Up > ON and make sure the engine is running.
Generally, climate status data will be shown on the Z-E2065, if these information’s have been displayed by the OE device before.
AW: Yes. There are basically three different sound systems as follows. 1) the 8-channel standard system, 2) the 10-channel sound system, 3) the 10-channel sound system with DSP functions. All three factory systems are supported by the Z-E2065.
AW: The Z-E2065 has a CAN bus connection for all the steering wheel button functions relevant to the device. Which buttons of the multifunction steering wheel are supported can be found in the Z-E2065 device main operating instructions on page 22.
AW: Go to > Settings > Audio > Expert mode. Then open the “Equalizer”.
AW: In order to protect ZENEC devices against under voltage and resulting malfunctions such as software crashes or even damage to the electronics, the ZENEC device has an automatic under voltage check while the device is booting up and during device operation: If the supply voltage is unstable or fluctuating, dropping below 10.5 volts, the device triggers a restart.
Device restarts usually point at the on-board power supply, which can briefly drop below 10.5 volts during engine start. If the device frequently restarts/reboots when the engine is started, it is best to consult the service partner or motorhome dealer to have the starter battery and/or electrical installation checked.
AW: First of all, the password function should be set to “ON”. Then, before you can enter your own password, you must enter the default password – 12345 – once. Also see page 53 of the main device manual.
AW: During the respective navigation announcement, the volume of the announcement can be adjusted directly using the VOL buttons on the front of the device or the horizontal volume slider in the device display. The newly set value is saved and retained.
AW: Due to the long compatibility list of the Z-E2065, it is hardly possible to provide info on the adapters required to support the various different VW original camera systems. Alternatively, depending on the camera system, third-party integration kits are available. Some of which are quite often also offered by authorized ZENEC dealers. Please note the following additional information:
Quadlock 2: With dynamic lines ex works usually “High” adapter is needed, without lines “Low” adapter should fit.
Quadlock 3: Should enable direct Plu&Play via RCA on many systems.
AW: Yes, the Z-E2065 supports dynamic camera guide lines on all vehicles with a factory mounted rear view camera system.
AW: Up to seven smartphones can be paired at the same time. However, only one of them can be connected at a time. The Auto Connect function is only available for the last connected mobile device.
AW: The Z-E2065 has an automatic synchronization of the phone book entries of the currently paired smartphone. In the Bluetooth phone book of the device, you can see a re-sync icon at the bottom left of the screen. A tap on this re-sync icon forces the manual transfer of all phonebook entries stored on the smartphone.
AW: Please follow the instructions on pages 28 – 29 in the main operating instructions of the device.
The general range of functions of CarPlay, as well as an overview of the apps supported by CarPlay and further additional information can be found on the official Apple website: https://www.apple.com/de/ios/carplay/
AW: Android Auto is pre-installed on newer smartphones (from Android 10 an up) while older versions may require manual installation via the Google Play Store.
To use Android Auto on your ZENEC device, the time and date must first be set correctly on your ZENEC device.
Please refer to chapter “Device settings → System → Time & date settings” in the device operating instructions on p. 50-51.
You can find more general information about Android Auto at https://www.android.com/auto/ and https://support.google.com/androidauto/?hl=de#topic=6348027
AW: Press the “HOME” sensor button for longer than 1 second, or: Open the [Home] app list and tap on the settings source symbol. Now tap on “Audio quick settings” to call up the audio settings.
Please refer to the information in the main device operating instructions on page 41.
AW: The device has two USB ports that do not achieve full redundancy for the assigned functions. Here is the definition of the ports and the functions supported by USB1 and USB2 ports:
AW: It can happen that the file system of the data carrier is corrupt or damaged, or that the formatting of a data carrier is lost due to several aborted read/write cycles. The causes for this can be of various kinds, such as the specific use or storage of the data carrier, as well as problems with the initial formatting.
In such cases, you must format the data carrier again, using your PC or notebook and the FAT32 option. Data carriers which are still not recognized by the device after new formatting indicate some sort of incompatibility of the data carrier controller chip. Then, you should try use a different USB stick from another brand.
AW: Format the USB data carrier you want to use with FAT32 – before use. Zenec generally recommends using only high-quality USB sticks. Please observe the specifications in the main device features for the permissible memory sizes. Please also note that the USB ports on the device are designed for a current consumption of 2,000 mA (USB1) and 700 mA (USB2). As external hard disks often have higher operating currents, we advise against using them. Further information on USB and MP3 playback problems can be found here:
AW: SW updates for the device can be downloaded from the download area of the ZENEC homepage www.zenec.com under > Support > Software updates. Updates are installed on the device using a suitable USB stick. Follow the software installation instructions carefully to ensure that the update is installed on the device in full.
