Z-N1000 Infotainment System

Most advanced navigation and innovative multimedia functions, including Wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android AutoTM for your vehicle.

Infotainment System with 9" / 22.9 cm Display

Universal infotainer
The Z-N1000 is suitable for installation in vehicles that do not feature a standard 1-DIN or 2-DIN radio installation slot which allows upgrading or which have a non-removable old factory navigation system installed. Thanks to the separate control unit, retrofitting with the Z-N1000 is almost always possible. The monitor and control unit are connected via a 130 cm system cable.

Connecting the multifunction steering wheel Multifunction steering wheel buttons of target vehicles can be connected to the Z-N1000 via IR-In port. This port connects to separately available CAN/Stalk interfaces, which integrate the SWC button functions up to full coverage depending on vehicle make and interface. Resistance based analog SWC buttons can also be assigned via programming function.

Control unit with separate monitor
The separately stowable control unit has a 1-DIN subsite format of 178 x 110 x 40 mm). The unit is screwed into a suitable location using two metal brackets (included in the set). The unit is also compatible with various 1-DIN metal mounting frames, which means that installation in 1-DIN slots is possible with little effort. All inputs and connections are located on the back of the black box.

Most advanced Navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for your vehicle
With the Z-N1000, ZENEC presents an innovative and certified wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android AutoTM system solution for the infotainment retrofitting of vehicles.
The Z-N1000 consists of two components: a high-quality 9“/22.9 cm touchscreen monitor with sensor control buttons and an external control unit. Both components can be installed separately in the vehicle cockpit. The Z-N1000 is therefore particularly recommended for vehicles that do not allow conventional retrofitting or upgrading –neither with a 1- or 2-DIN device nor with a vehicle-specific solution.
The touchscreen is OCA bonded with the TFT-LCD display panel to form an amazingly flat and light monitor system unit, rendering impressively detailed high-contrast images.

Adjustable and removable monitor
The monitor is mounted at a suitable location using the ball joint on the universal base (included in the set). The universal base can be screwed or laminated in directly. Once mounted, the monitor can be removed again in one easy step thanks to the snap-in mechanism. The ball joint allows the monitor to be angled horizontally and vertically by ±15° and thus perfectly adapted to the driver‘s field of vision.

Alternative monitor mounting
There are numerous clever vehicle-specific smartphone/mini-tablet holders available on the market, allowing to mount the monitor in the cockpit, retrofitting a vehicle without having to drill holes. The monitor unit complete with universal base and ball joint mechanism weighs less than 500 g. A good number of industry type vehicle mounts for smartphone / tablets may thus offer sufficient stability to hold the Z-N1000.

9“ monitor with bonded touch panel
The capacitive 22.9 cm/9” LCD TFT IPS monitor with real glass touchscreen is a bonded assembly by direct bonded fit of the touchscreen with the TFT panel. This results in a very thin and light system design with known advantages. The bonding reduces internal reflections to significantly increase luminosity and black level. The image brightness and contrast color gamut are breathtaking.

Easy installation with adjustable and removable monitor
The monitor unit, which weighs just 500 g, can be mounted in the cockpit, using the universal base included in the set. The universal base can either be screwed down at the chosen spot, or else get laminated to the surface. Other options are also thinkable, depending on the target vehicle. For example the use of mini tablet or smartphone holders from vehicle accessories programs.
The snap-in mechanism located between the ball joint mechanism and the display housing provides a welcome advantage during the installation to unhook the monitor for easier access of the mounting location. The monitor snaps back in place once installation is completed. Thanks to the integrated ball joint, the monitor can be aligned vertically and horizontally by ±15°, for best field of vision. The compact control unit can be mounted in glove compartments, the center console or the footwell.

ZENEC FAV and CAM buttons
Frequently used functions can be assigned to the FAV button. This can be a source, e.g. DAB+, CarPlay, USB, or a function, e.g. audio settings or display brightness. If the FAV button has been assigned accordingly, you can perform the associated function easily and conveniently. Camera systems can be switched on manually using the CAM button on the front.

RGB multicolor sensor key illumination
The large sensor keys enable accurate operation while driving. The lighting color sensor keys can be variably adjusted so that the Z-N1000 integrates perfectly into the cockpit ambience of almost any vehicle.

Innovative operating concept
A special highlight of the device is the new innovative operating concept with simultaneous display of three sources on the large touchscreen. This gives you an overview of the available internal and external sources, allowing you to quickly select one of the sources and bring it to the foreground to fill the format.

Clear and well-structured display
All sources and apps are clearly displayed – so all functions can be grasped at a glance and selected directly. It is also shown which app is available and can be selected. The clear and well-structured display plays a decisive role in ensuring that the Z-N1000 can be operated safely while driving.

BT and AV Playback Compatibility

Bluetooth Compatibility

Notes on the Bluetooth hands-free function
The Z-N1000 uses a modern Bluetooth LE solution which was developed for use in the automotive environment. The module supports the Bluetooth 5.0 profile with Hands-Free Profile v1.7, which ensures a basically good and high compatibility of the ZENEC Z-N1000 device with relevant Bluetooth functions in combination of most popular smartphone brands and models. Exceptions for Bluetooth function or profile components that do not seem to run correctly usually originate from provider-specific smartphone firmware (“3rd party provider”).
In order to be sure that a given smartphone is compatible with the relevant BT functions of the target device, it is advisable to test a given device / smartphone combination before purchase.

Additional information
Some smartphones require confirmation to allow access to the internal phone book contact list. The phonebook access confirmation needs to be performed by the user directly on the smartphone, if necessary. If you encounter connection problems, always check if a newer firmware version is available for download for your smartphone and install it. After a smartphone update, you should delete the previous device pairing on the device, reboot the smartphone and pair again.
Known issues also exist with smartphones of the brand Huawei. Study the related FAQ entry to find a possible remedy for successful pairing.

FAQs

Installation

AW: None! The Z-N1000 device can be deployed in vehicles which do not offer the usual 1-DIN or 2-DIN radio mounting slots.
Notice: Due to the 9-inch display dimension, it should be evaluated whether safety-relevant operating elements are impaired by the Z-N1000 monitor physically. For example, hazard warning lights, airbag modules and other control panels in the cockpit. ZENEC accepts no liability for the loss of the vehicle’s road homologation or/and consequential damages and costs attributed to “device obscures important controls” of the vehicle.

AW: Yes, the Z-N1000 monitor features a ball joint that allows the display orientation to be adjusted by ±15° in the horizontal and vertical pane.

AW: The Z-N1000 has two options for connecting to existing steering wheel remote control buttons in the vehicle.

  1. resistance-based, if it is an analog/resistance-based steering wheel remote control.

The Z-N1000 has an analog direct interface that supports compatible vehicles without further measures. This means that the steering wheel buttons can be programmed to your dedicated requirements in the programming mode. Please follow the instructions in the main operating instructions for the device on p.12-14.

  1. CAN bus based, if your vehicle is equipped with a CAN based steering wheel remote control.

The Z-N1000 has an IR-In input on the connection side of the computer unit for connecting separately available external CAN/Stalk interfaces.

AW: The Z-N1000 contains a DAB+ twin tuner, providing a dynamic list of DAB+ radio stations currently receivable in the area. The station sorting corresponds to the sequence of the DAB Ensembles and their short ID (e.g. 5C, 7A, 7D, 8D, 12C). The radio stations in each Ensemble sort alphabetically. Manual sorting of radio station entries in the Ensemble lists is not possible. The Ensembles and radio station entries are updated regularly by the automatic background scan.

Operation

AW: Basically, there are some effects that can be observed with thin-film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCDs) which manifest due to the underlying technology. What occurs with displays may or may not be visible to the eye, as it depends on the type of panel. With the different TFT-LCD display types and solutions, older and newer TFT-LCD design variants must be differentiated in terms of the impact and persistence of visible effects.

An earlier common term that could occur with older TFT LCD displays was “ghosting”. Also known as “burn-in effect”. Displays affected by ghosting were permanently damaged. The effect could occur after just a few hours of operation. Effective counter-strategies were screen savers and pixel shifting. The panel technology has advanced further since then.

For several years now, ghosting has no longer been an issue with “good TFT-LCD” displays. But even today, visible effects can occur, which do look similar to the “ghosting” issue known in the old times.

Can also not be completely avoided, since the same technology is still used today – liquid crystal cells controlled by transistors. The effect and/or its visibility also depend to a large extent on the graphic layout of the OSD menu(s).

In contrast to the past, currently produced IPS-based TFT-LCD displays no longer suffer from permanent burn-in effects. The “shadows” are reversible. The shadows occur in areas where pixels have not been addressed for a longer period of time (“still image”). In these areas, the liquid crystal cells become inert and create shadows that are clearly visible on gray backgrounds…..

On the OCA-bonded TFT-LCD panel of the Z-N1000 model, still image lasting for more than 30 minutes can also produce “shadow” areas. This is hardly disturbing for normal use and 100% reversible. One device OFF / ON cycle does fully reset the liquid crystal cells.

AW: After the first power-on process and after separation from the vehicle battery, the Z-N1000 will perform an automatic DAB radio station search. Depending on the vehicle location and locally available DAB frequency bands, the station search process can take up to 2.5 minutes. During the search period, DAB radio stations cannot be accessed nor selected by the user.

AW: “FAV” is an abbreviation for “Favorite” and refers to a configurable function key, (see device manual under “Misc Setup” p.61-63) where a specific function can be assigned via the Setup menu. The “FAV” sensor key on the device front panel supports the following direct function assignments: Camera / FM / Setup / iPod / USB / BT / NAVI / DAB+ / BT source mode / APP List / Mute / Voice / Apple Carplay / Android Auto / BT Music / AV-IN / EQ / DISP / HDMI.

AW: “ALT” is an abbreviation for “Alternative” and refers to a configurable function key, also see device main user manual under “Misc Setup”, where a specific button function can be assigned via the Setup menu. The device features an ALT button field in the HMI. The following direct function assignments for the “ALT” button are available: Camera / FM / Setup / iPod / USB / BT / NAVI / DAB+ / BT source mode / APP List / Mute / Voice / Apple Carplay / Android Auto / BT Music / AV-IN / EQ / DISP / HDMI. Foer more info see device manual under “Various General Settings” p.62-63)

AW: The camera range of ZENEC includes so-called “Multiview” models, designed as vehicle specific version as well as universal models. The Multiview function allows direct manual control of the desired rear view image on the ZENEC device, by tapping one of the six camera views on the touchscreen.

AW: The Z-N1000 offers two control options for the automatic TFT display brightness adjustment. At the device, go to: Setup > Display (TFT Display Settings) > TFT Control > “Car” or “Navi”.
As factory default setting, “Car” is enabled which means that the device dims the screen when low or high beam is activated. For the “Car” based TFT screen brightness control, the “Illu signal” at the ISO-connector is used. Using your main headlights as Daytime Running Lights with TFT Control set to “Car” mode will cause dimmed screen (brightness value for night) with the headlights turned on.
Therefore, users driving with main headlights ON as daytime running lights should set the TFT Control to “Navi” so that the day/night time zone data controls the TFT screen brightness. Note: The “Navi” setting will cause the device to start up in night mode until an actual GPS time signal for device master clock is retrieved via GPS downstream. This may take up to 30 seconds

AW: Please refer to the instructions on page 40 to 43 of the device main operating manual.

The general functionality of CarPlay, as well as an overview of the apps supported by CarPlay and further additional information can be found on Apple’s official site: https://www.apple.com/en/ios/carplay/

AW: On newer smartphones (as of Android 10) Android Auto is pre-installed ex works. For older smartphones a manual installation from the Google Play store might be necessary.

To use Android Auto on your ZENEC device, you have to adjust time and date on your ZENEC device correctly. Please pay attention to chapter „Setup Operations → System → Clock & Date Setup“ shown in the main device user manual of the Z-N1000. For more detailed information about Android Auto, please visit

https://www.android.com/auto/  and https://support.google.com/androidauto#topic=6348027

AW: You can long-press the “HOME” sensor button, or alternatively: Access “Settings” or press on the App List Symbol, then on the “Audio Quick Setup” to bring up the audio adjustment options. Also see info in the main  device manual on page 64.

AW: The password function must be set to ON under “Setup” > “System” > “Password Function”. See page 78 in the main device manual. The default code – 12345 – must be entered once. After this step is completed, device will accept any other individual code combination.

AW: Zenec devices include under-voltage protection sensor circuitry to avoid low voltage boot process to safeguard the unit that may not work as intended without stable supply voltage. The root cause of device reboot issues can usually be attributed to the on-board batteries or +12V power supply cables and connections, causing the voltage to drop below 10.5 volts during engine start-up.
In case of frequent device reboots after engine starts, please consult your vehicle service point or the motor home dealer to review your car´s starter or second battery and the electrical wiring.

Navigation Software

AW: During the navigation announcement, the volume of the voice announcement can be adjusted by the “+” and “-“ sensor buttons on the device front panel, as well as via horizontal volume scale pop-up.

Adjustments performed during a navigation announcement are retained.

In the cockpit mode of the Z-EMAP76 navigations software (map view), there are PLUS and MINUS buttons in the top right corner to adjust the volume of the navigation voice message at any time.

AW: To keep your device up to date in terms of map coverage, it is possible to update the microSD card with the PC tool called “Toolbox” via the Naviextras online portal.

Navigation software updates, add-on’s content and map updates are available here: https://zenec.naviextras.com

Please note the information in the navigation chapter of the main device manual of your device as shown on p. 46-50.

On Naviextras you have access to paid and free map updates and further add-on’s or bug fixes. The navigation software package offered with the Z-N1000 includes a 3-year map subscription. This allows you to keep the map content up to date for three years free of charge after (GPS) activation. The map provider TomTom (or other providers – depending on the navigation package) usually offers two map updates per year for download on Naviextras (without guarantee by Zenec – it is third-party content).

Disclaimer: The map update subscription can only be guaranteed in its full extent in connection with a new device, which is put into operation together with a new navigation map. In the case of used devices with navigation maps purchased later, the date of the first use of the device is decisive. Naviextras sets a hidden timestamp at the first contact of the system with GPS satellites, which records the start of the first map use.

AW: The NNG / Naviextras date information shown on new map package offerings follows a date convention set by OEM Automotive customers, which refers to the publication date of the raw digital map data. The raw data of single countries is assembled, compiled and subject to extensive testing and post-processing. This process takes several months of time, before a new package is ready for release to consumers.

Important for purchase and use of a map package: The purchase packages offered on Naviextras always include the latest digital map data available from TomTom or other providers.

AW: Please note that navigation maps from ZENEC for Western and Eastern Europe coverage use map material from TomTom. TomTom is a renowned provider of digital map data for navigation systems.

In general, it can never be ruled out that digital map data is incorrect at locations such as intersections, new roads, etc. and the navigation system will issue wrong route instructions. Map content errors can only be handled by the content provider and nobody else. Map errors can be reported to TomTom at the following link – however, a user account must be opened for this purpose:

http://www.tomtom.com/mapshare/tools/

Notice: Links for other map data providers will be hosted by Naviextras.

AW: If the vehicle is parked for an extended period of time, the GPS signal may take longer to become sufficient for accurate GPS positioning the next time the engine is started. If you are relying on accurate guidance, make sure the GPS signal is good before entering a destination or driving off. If you drive off with poor or no GPS signal, it may take considerably longer for the system to achieve sufficient accuracy. Else, you may check the position of the GPS receiver and the wiring/connection for a loose contact or broken cable.

AW: The TMC / TPEG function in the ZENEC navigation software is based on freely broadcasted TMC / TPEG data (country-specific coverage). Out of the box, TMC / TPEG function is activated. Before starting a support ticket to report “missing live traffic” data make sure, free TMC / TPEG data is actually available in the country of use.

Note: In Switzerland, TMC is no longer available because FM broadcasting was stopped on end of December 2024.

AW: CampingSchaf POI packages are re-compiled once every year and usually become available until Q2 latest.  You can download an up-to-date (multi-language) CampingSchaf POI package as free add-on via the Naviextras portal. At toolbox click on “Shop”, use the searchbox with input “Camping” or “Schaf”. Alternatively at “MAPS & MORE” select POIs and search for “CampingSchaf”. Show the details of Camping and confirm the download by adding it to the shopping cart. CampingSchaf is part of the package content of Z-EMAP76PC-TT3 and Z-EMAP76MH-TT3 packages, including free yearly updates. The Toolbox will show you the actual downloadable package: https://zenec.naviextras.com/shop/portal

Bluetooth

AW: Up to seven smartphones can be paired at the same time. However, only one of them can be connected for use at a time. The Auto Connect function is only available for the last connected mobile device.

AW: The phonebook of the paired smartphone can be updated manually using the Re-Sync option. Please note the information in the main device user manual on page 23 to 33.

AW: No, unfortunately this is not possible. You can delete a saved favorite. Then resynchronize the phonebook and select the updated contact as a favorite again.

Media

AW: The microSD card reader on the Z-N1000 control unit is for the operation of the GPS navigation software exclusively. Use of the microSD card reader for audio or video file playback is not possible.

AW: It can happen that the file system of the data medium is damaged or that the formatting of a data medium is lost due to aborted write cycles. The causes for this can be of various kinds, such as use or storage of the data medium, as well as problems with the initial formatting.

In these cases, you must format the data carrier with FAT32 on your PC or notebook. Info: If media content on the USB drive is still not recognized by the device after formatting, it may be due to an incompatibility of the data media controller chip. In such a case you should use another USB medium by another manufacturer brand.
